Regulations, mandates and corporate governance are driving the need to retain digital content for long periods. This entails a new strategy beyond the simplistic, highly inefficient and downright risky "Just Keep Buying More Hard Drives" strategy. To effectively manage myriad data types with dramatically different retrieval requirements, a storage architecture must mix specialized devices that each play a unique role in the archival continuum. Critical assets should always be automatically placed on write once optical media such as Blu-Ray when first created to ensure they are never lost in the eventual failure of hard disk devices. Optical libraries from DISC and network publishers from Rimage can both play roles in the archive workflow when properly managed using software from PoINT.
