GTGI | G-Soft Application Stories

GTGI has a long history of developing and integrating products for our customers. This page features just a few of the installations we've performed using products from our G-Soft family.

AutoDisc
Irvin Simon Photographers had an archiving problem: how to move large amounts of digital photos to CDs for later printing and processing. They chose AutoDisc and a Rimage system as their solution. Their custom software now automatically saves pictures from a particular job into a folder, catalogs them, and AutoDisc detects the presence of the files and starts a recording job. AutoDisc saves them the labor of manually archiving each photography job for later processing.

NetDisc

There are two unique implementations of our NetDisc product: One at Tobyhanna Army Depot and another at the US Census Bureau.

Tobyhanna Army Depot uses NetDisc to eliminate stale inventory of training videos, as well as excess equipment needed to store those videos. Tobyhanna converted all of their VHS, Betacam, and U-Matic masters to DVD, and GTGI provided a NetDisc server with an attached G-Stor storage array to store the DVD images. Now Tobyhanna's customers can place an order for the training DVDs they want and they are produced on demand...with no excessive storage necessary.

The US Census Bureau distributes population, topographical, and other information related to previous Census efforts. Previously this information was distributed on a fixed set of CDs and DVDs. NetDisc enabled Census customers to go to the Census web site and request a custom disc with just the information from the states they are interested in. Normally this presented a problem, because the format of the mapping software Census uses requires each geographical area to be re-indexed if the entire disc set is not available. To fully integrate the Census map format into NetDisc, GTGI provided a custom-modified version that aggregates the data, re-indexes it on-demand, then creates a CD with the requested data and a custom label. This process allows Census to eliminate excess inventory and focus on other customer activities.

SpanDisc

Using SpanDisc in video applications can be ideal. Both the Cook County Illinois Sheriff's Office and the New York office of the Drug Enforcement Agency agree.

Cook County uses SpanDisc with a Rimage DiscLab to archive video taken during suspect interviews. SpanDisc takes the video files created by a video capture software and outputs them to a set of DVDs automatically. This converts a multi-step manual process of figuring out which files will fit onto a single disc into a single-step drag-drop-click operation.

The DEA uses SpanDisc in a similar manner for archiving observation video. This allows DEA agents to concentrate on their surroundings rather than what they should be recording to disc.

SecureDisc

Many US Government agencies use SecureDisc to protect the CDs and DVDs they send out for field use, as well as archiving. Using SecureDisc adds a level of protection the discs distributed would not otherwise have. In one case, the State Department used SecureDisc with a Rimage system to distribute potentially sensitive reports on CD. Though the data is not "secret" or higher, they prefer to restrict general access to some of the discs they produce to prevent viewing if the disc is lost or stolen.
